[FIRST NAME GOES HERE] thank you for a brilliant 2024!

G'day Reader

2024 has been a big year for me, and I feel I’m not alone. As I race towards wrapping on Friday for a few weeks of much needed R&R, I want to reflect on an exciting and challenging 2024, and what big plans I have for 2025!

It started with a bang, as I started introducing branding as a core offering which saw me help numerous brands across Melbourne, Sydney and California (thanks Anna Mudd!) improve their presence.

A personal favourite of mine is the brand developed for Enchanted Engineering; a new company that specialises in bespoke costumes and props that have integrated technology. The case study is yet to be developed, but here’s a sneak peek 👀. They may be developing some flashy new name badges for me to wear at events soon!

Work with non profits have continued to increase. I was grateful for the opportunity to redesign the Labia Library website for Women’s Health Victoria earlier this year, and working with DVCS who does important work assisting domestic violence survivors in Canberra. Their new site will launch in the new year. 🥳

Narelle Wright Gatti and I also founded AUCUA, a conference focused on accessibility, usability, and communication. We had our first online conference in September with a jam packed panel of speakers, and was a great (but exhausting) day. We’re already thinking bigger and better for 2025!

This year was also a huge one for networking! I came up with the ambitious goal to meet with 400 people, and at the time of sending this, I’m about 20 short.

If you want to help a gal out, you can book your own 15 minute end of year check in here: https://cal.com/shannontowell/end-of-year-check-in. Event wise, I have been to 129 for the year. I’ll be writing a blog post detailing how this dedication to networking went shortly!Reader

As for 2025 plans, I have plans to go bigger and bolder. I am launching the Accessibility Clinic! This consultancy will focus on working with museums, and other cultural institutions to create more inclusive experiences for everyone, both online and in person. It combines both my love for accessibility advocacy, and working with museums. Keep your eyes peeled in January for the official launch! 👀

Don’t worry, the design business isn’t going anywhere. With two international clients onboarded this year, I still have plans for global domination one pixel at a time!

I want to sincerely thank all of my clients, referral partners, mentors, friends, family, Stu and my continual employee of the month, Jerry, for giving me the opportunity to do some of the best work of my career to date!

I will be back at my desk on the 13th of January. So if you are wanting to lock in some design work or accessibility consultation work for the new year, let’s chat!

Stay excellent,
Shannon
